In summer 2022, the Advocates Library went live with Symphony as their LMS, and Enterprise as their discovery layer, replacing their previous system which had been in place since 1999. The Advocates Library is one of the older libraries in Scotland, and is still considered one of the best law libraries in the country. It has a wealth of history behind it, including the library of Sir Walter Scott at Abbotsford, his home in the Borders, but the Advocates Library must consider future needs and ways of working.
Natasha Aburrow-Jones, the Systems Librarian for the Advocates Library, would like to take the opportunity to explore how a traditional law library is moving forward, discussing why SirsiDynix were chosen as the preferred vendor, how an LMS change was managed within a small library, and plans for the future.
